Director of Children and Student Ministries
Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church | 30–35 hours/week
PURPOSE
To lead a unified cradle-to-graduation discipleship pathway that equips parents, develops leaders,
strengthens children’s and student ministries, and fosters a vibrant family-ministry culture aligned with
CLEFC’s mission to make maturing disciples of Jesus Christ
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will oversee CLEFC children and student ministries by partnering with parents, developing
volunteers, and creating relational environments where the next generation comes to know and follow
Jesus. This role leads leaders—shaping strategy, directing ministry areas, and investing relationally.
Primary Responsibilities
LEADERSHIP AND STRATEGY
• Oversee a unified discipleship pathway from nursery through high school
• Align curriculum, programming, and environments with CLEFC’s mission and values
• Set annual goals and long-term strategy; provide regular updates to the Senior Pastor
• Shape the vision, values, and relational culture of children’s and student ministries
• Report to and coordinate with the Senior Pastor
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
• Equip parents with simple discipleship tools (guides, take-home materials, short videos, emails)
• Offer parent-equipping opportunities as needed
• Communicate clearly and consistently
• Lead key milestones (dedications, baptism prep, graduation moments)
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
• Recruit, train, onboard, and encourage volunteers
• Build healthy rotations; prevent burnout
• Empower leaders to oversee specific ministry areas
• Host training and appreciation events
PROGRAMMING AND EVENTS
• Oversee Sunday School ministries (select curriculum, support teachers)
• Organize and assist leadership for the Wednesday student ministry
• Coordinate annual events (e.g., King’s Kids, VBS, retreats, family nights)
• Ensure all events support the discipleship pathway
COMMUNICATION AND ADMINISTRATION
• Maintain communication with families (email, text, social media, website)
• Manage children’s and youth ministry budgets
• Oversee safety processes and check-in systems
• Coordinate with the church office for scheduling and promotion
PERSONAL AND SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Deep love for Jesus and commitment to making disciples
• Warm, relational presence with kids, students, parents, and volunteers
• Strong communicator and team developer; organized and proactive
• Agreement with the EFCA Statement of Faith
• Preferably 2+ years in children’s, student, or family ministry leadership
• Preferably holds a degree in children’s ministry, youth or family ministry, Biblical studies, or a
related field
